“Should the federal government substantially increase transportation infrastructure investment in the United States?” The answer is an emphatic “yes.”
A strong federal role in transportation is as old as America. The U.S. Constitution; in Article I, Section 8, Clause 7, gave the federal government responsibility for “post Roads.” Thus began a centuries-long national emphasis that continues to this day on improving and expanding interstate commerce, and that sort of private-sector-led economic growth has been, and should always continue to be, a federal priority.
This website, was developed by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association to help students participating in the Urban Debate Leagues by providing them with a wealth of material about the federal government’s role in spurring transportation investment – investments that have made the U.S. an economic and military superpower, and provided a quality of life that is unmatched anywhere in the world. It also contains information about the need for continued federal leadership to address the nation’s infrastructure challenges for the future.
